As we move forward, one of our goals is to improve upon our positive school culture where teachers love to teach and children love to learn. In working towards this, we have had collaborative discussions in which we developed our Core Beliefs. Our Core Beliefs serve as a code of ethics or guiding light for the way professionals in this district will deal with discipline problems. This is a living document that we will continue to have discussions around and will guide us in our daily decisions.

Dear Parents and Community Members of the Gold Oak Union School District:
Do you know that School Boards or Boards of Trustees are one of the last areas of grass roots democracy? School Board members are called “trustees” – they are locally elected, represent local areas (live within the district, but do not need to have children), meet locally, make local decisions and are entrusted by the citizens to direct the district. Being entrusted by the citizens of the district and becoming a trustee is a great honor, one that is taken seriously and with dignity.
The Gold Oak Union School District has a long history of excellent trustees who have dedicated years of their lives in service to their school district and community. Excellent trustees are people from different backgrounds, of different professions, varied economic groups, and with individual belief systems who have come together to serve, guide and secure the trust of the community in directing the school district with a vision of “What is best for the whole?”, as opposed to “What is best for me?”
The Board of Trustees of the Gold Oak Union School District wishes to announce two vacancies on the Board. The term of the appointment will be from April, 2017, to December, 2018. If you are interested in applying for this position, please stop by or call the District Office for information on the criteria and responsibilities of being a Board Member and an application packet. The deadline for applying for this position is Friday April 7, 2017 at 4:00 PM.
If you are, or know of an individual who is interested in the achievement of all students; values and supports public education; understands confidentiality; acts with dignity and appropriate demeanor; is a person of integrity, recognizes and respects differences of perspective and style of the Board, among staff, students, parents and community then please consider candidacy for yourself or encourage an individual you know.
If you have any questions, please contact Dawn Eddleman at 626-3150.

It is hard to believe that we are at the mid-point of our school year already. This has been an exciting fall watching the students work so hard on their academics. I have seen some tremendous learning at all grade levels. From reading, to art, to math, to music, to physical education, students have demonstrated some amazing things.
Staff also continue to work hard this school year. This year staff have used their professional development days to learn the new language arts curriculum adopted this year and to continue to delve deep into the newer math curriculum. These programs are aligned with the Common Core State Standards and they are quite rigorous. I have sat in quite a few meetings with parents where the parents express their wonder at the challenging work their children bring home. The teachers have also used their professional development time to look closely at the assessment data collected in their classrooms and use this data to plan next steps in moving the students forward. It is a gift to have a teaching staff that desires to continually work with their colleagues to hone and improve their teaching for continued student improvement.
It has been a joy to get to know the students, parents and staff in the Gold Oak district over the past few months. I am so thankful to be part of this district. This is a community where excellence in education is a high priority and I will continue this focus as we move to the second half of the year and as planning begins for the next school year.
May you all have a wonderful holiday season. Enjoy the time with your families. As always, if you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out and call or email.
